I only remember a few sermons from my time at theological college, though I heard several a week. One was preached by a fellow student, Jonathan Baker, during our first year of preaching classes. He made the point that Jesus didn’t say ‘I am the chocolate eclair of life.’
Jesus isn’t just for special occasions. He gives us life in the ordinary, everyday things as they are touched and transformed by his love. Of course, bread can be delicious and wonderful in itself. More often, it’s there in the background of a meal, to support and fill out everything else.
How can I see Jesus behind the whole of life, not only as the main focus of attention, but sustaining me throughout each day?
